Director and Screenwriter

 

Director, screenwriter and producer of cinema, TV and theater, Pedro is graduated in Direction of Cinema at EICTV, in Cuba, where he is now a professor of the Direction course and professor of the schools of Altos de Chavón (Dominican Republic) and AIC (RJ/SP).

He wrote and directed 8 short films that competed in the festivals of Venice, Locarno, Havana, Cinéma du Réel, Oberhausen, Turin, Huelva, Rio Festival, Gramado and SP. His short film Se por Acaso, made under the artistic supervision of Abbas Kiarostami, premiered at the Locarno Festival as a tribute to the Iranian director and the short film O Teu Sorriso, with Paulo José and Juliana Carneiro da Cunha was winner of the Festival de Gramado and Hours Concours Critical Award at the Festival do Rio, and was selected for the Horizontes exhibition of the Venice Festival of the same year.

On TV he directed 9 series and soap operas, under the general direction of Luiz Fernando Carvalho, Anna Muylaert, Maurício Farias, such as Detetives do Prédio Azul, Os Canalhas, Meu Pedacinho de Chão, Sete Vidas e Um Lugar ao Sol, next soap opera of 21h Globo.

He directed the plays Outros Tempos, by Harold Pinter, and Vista de Cima, by Bráulio Mantovani. He has worked on 19 feature films and 5 plays, as a screenwriter for Ruy Guerra and Karim Aïnouz; assistant director for Karim Aïnouz, Lúcia Murat, Enrique Diaz and Bia Lessa; and casting coach for Marcelo Gomes, Eduardo Valente and Cao Guimarães.

Pedro attended the Director’s Lab residences at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York and the Berlinale Talent Campus. His first feature-length screenplay, Malu, is still in development.
