Mariana Bastos

Director and Screenwriter

 

Mariana Bastos is a director and screenwriter graduated from FAAP and since 2019 also teaches screenwriting courses and private consultancy for dramaturgy projects. She was one of the authors of the first Brazilian viral fiction, Tapa na Pantera, with more than 10 million hits on Youtube. In 2009, she was a screenwriter for the series Tudo que é Sólido Pode Derreter, directed by Rafael Gomes and Esmir Filho (TV Cultura). She won twice the English Culture Festival script contest, which allowed her to make short films (Perto de Qualquer Lugar, and Sete Anos Depois) awarded in various national and international festivals.

She was screenwriter and took over the General Direction of the doc-reality series Expedição Xingu, for Rede Globo - Fantástico. She directed other programs for GNT as Base Aliada, with Julia Petit, and the reality show Descontroladas. She wrote and directed the branded content series Marias (Sony) in partnership with Vera Egypt, by ParanoidBr.

She wrote 20 episodes of Admirável Mundo Novo (GNT), a mixture of reality show and variety. She directed the music video for the song Into Shade by Lucas Santtana and Bárbara Eugênia. She is a founding partner and creator of the BASE FILMES project, an artistic residency for dramaturgy development with editions in 2014 and 2019.

In 2018, she released her first feature film, Alguma Coisa Assim, co-production Brazil - Germany, written and directed in partnership with Esmir Filho, from the short film of the same name awarded at the Cannes Festival. Distributed by Vitrine Filmes, it was selected for important festivals such as Guadalajara and Rio Film Festival and awarded for Best Screenplay, Editing and Actress. Mariana is finishing her second feature film Raquel 1:1, a young thriller produced by Claraluz Filmes, in which she signs the script and direction.
